Connect Instagram Direct Messages

Before you start

  • An Instagram Business or Creator account (not Personal)
  • The Instagram account must be connected to a Facebook Page
  • A UltraPilot account

Setup steps

  1. Convert your Instagram to Business / Creator

    Open Instagram app → Settings → Account → Switch to Professional Account. Pick Business or Creator (either works). This unlocks the Messenger Platform API access needed by UltraPilot.

  2. Connect Instagram to a Facebook Page

    In Facebook Business Suite, link your Instagram account to a Facebook Page you administer. UltraPilot connects via the Page's permissions, not Instagram directly.

  3. Sign in to UltraPilot with Facebook

    Follow the standard Facebook Messenger connect flow in UltraPilot. The OAuth dialog will additionally request instagram_basic + instagram_manage_messages permissions.

  4. Pick which Instagram accounts to connect

    After OAuth, you'll see your linked Instagram accounts in the channel selector. Click "Connect" on the ones you want UltraPilot to manage.

Common gotchas

  • Personal Instagram accounts CANNOT be connected — must convert to Business/Creator first.
  • Instagram's 24-hour messaging window applies just like Messenger (Meta policy).
  • Story replies and message reactions are delivered as separate events — UltraPilot consolidates them in the conversation view.

Once connected, you get

  • Instagram DMs appear in the unified inbox alongside other channels
  • AI reply suggestions trained on your brand voice
  • Story reply context preserved ("Customer replied to your story about Product X")
  • Order creation from chat + tracking number sent back via DM
